Postponed

I had an Inklings conference scheduled for mid-March at the Presbyterian Heritage Center in Montreat, NC but it has been postponed to September. Grim tells me that the area has been doing very well in terms of covid, but I imagine folks are still nervous about bringing in people from all over the world and putting them in the same room.  I have been hoping - again - that things would be dropping off quickly and rather safe at that point, but it's not my call, is it?

I hear that Buncombe County is not doing as well as we are out on the Western frontier. I was in Asheville earlier this week and they've re-instituted the mask mandate, and people seem to be exercising heightened concern.

Out here it's better; as I have mentioned, we haven't had a COVID death in more than a year in my county. I have a theory about that, which is untestable and therefore of limited value: but back before there were COVID tests, one way you could guess where COVID was spreading was by the data of a medical thermometer company that was available online. Our whole region was lit up with fever, back in the 2019-2020 winter. My guess is that we have a lot of acquired immunity from that early passage, and that the Omicron/Delta waves have mostly reinforced it.

A few others have speculated that an earlier form of the virus has already been through a limited number of areas.
