Sununu Was On This Years Ago

In all this bailout debacle, it pays to remember that you can count on one hand the people in Washington who tried to fix it. John Sununu is one of those few. Because NH is turning blue, Jeanne Shaheen, a pleasant mediocrity, leads him in the polls. If you have friends or relatives in NH, send them this ad.

Actually, I'm not sure of the number of different individuals involved, but Bush and the GOP have tried something like 14 times during the course of the Bush admin to rein in and introduce oversight and sensible limitations on the "Fannie Mac" at the heart of all this crap.

That count, alone, suggests more than a hand's worth.

I can specifically point at two efforts, one pushed directly by Bush (2003), and another a bill co-sponsored by McCain (2005), which attempted to deal with this problem long before it reached crisis proportions.

In all cases, they were stymied by the Dems tying things up in committee, and, later, by outright blocking them.

The GOP still gets about 25% of the fault, give or take about 10% (mostly for failing to stand up and show some balls in the face of constant Dem obstructionism, and override the Dems despite their threats to hold their breath and stamp their feet if they did not get their own way).

Barney Frank should, btw, be hung upside down by his balls using rusty barbed wire...
