I heard a Brit use the term 'Noughties' for the early 2000's.  I hope it catches on.

Both "Aughts" and "Noughties" have their virtues as the name for the first decade of a century, but both also work much more effectively in written communication than in verbal -- where unless the context is clear from redundant information, they can be confused easily with words such as:

oughts (as in duties, obligations, correct actions)
naughties (those who misbehave)

What might you make of "knotties" for sailors? Just an odd thought.

Ough has five pronunciations. Which one do you mean?
