"Schul is going to win it!"

This may be where I fell in love with track & field.

I didn't remember Bob Schul but I definitely remembered Billy Mills and Gerry Lindgren from the same 1964 Tokyo Olympics. Gerry Lindgren because he was only 18, and Billy Mills because he won. I did take note that Billy Mills was Indian, because 2 of my aunts were 1/8 Indian. Gerry Lindgren broke the HS 2 mile indoor record by 42 seconds. As a young distance runner, I recall reading that in high school Gerry Lindgren ran a lot. His Wiki said that in college he averaged 240 miles a week during one year in college. I didn't realize he ran THAT much. As a young distance runner, I found it more inspiring to read about Gerry Lindgren's hard work than to emulate it.
