Fire In The Rain

Good advice even when it's raining much harder.  I would add that the more rain, the more kindling.  Much more. I love these videos.  Many are a bit of a sham, but you can usually get something even from those, because environments are so varied. The videos are often of people showing you how to build a fire only from materials at hand.  That's a good emergency skill, but most of the time you're going to be just camping and got more rain than you expected.  For that, you should have just carried in firestarting stuff: shavings, birch bark, paraffin sticks. Cotton balls in vaseline will go up very fast. And commercial lighters are fine. Flint-and-steel and the like are great things to learn, but until you've learned that, don't rely on it.

I've done fires in the snow, but not out in the wilderness.
