I too attended one of the many "Harvard of the ________" aspirants. You can easily tell what's going on by whether the school whose status is being questioned ever spends two seconds worrying about the competition. Harvard didn't have my school on its radar. My school, in turn, wouldn't have deigned to compete with some other local schools, no matter how regularly they thrashed us in football. I even heard a cheer once: "That's alright, that's OK, you're going to work for us one day." Man, is it easy to puncture people's self-esteem.
