The negative comments about Michael Nesmith on my post with two songs by him were a surprise, but even more surprising is my own surprise.
Hmm. Rather clumsy sentence, that.
My default position from youth is that The Monkees were not that musically talented and were a packaged band. When it turned out that one, at least, had some talent that became my new default position. I don't think I thought anything else about it, just plodded along with the unexamined opinion. The offending lyric, when looked at, is indeed shallow and selfish - never noticed that. He does indeed seem arrogant, once you look for it - never looked for it.
I'm going to bet that 90% of our opinions are like this.
