What Democrats said about immigration until very recently. What changed? Not an increase in compassion, because we have stopped hearing about this in the last six months.  It was an opportunity to stir up the emotions of nice people in an effort to kick Republicans, and especially Trump. It worked on many of those nice people.

Who Spends More on Social Welfare, the US or Sweden? Most poverty statistics by American and European advocacy groups tell you what the poor had before government aid, not what they end up with.

The Middle Eastern Fantasies of Edward Said.  Does anyone pay attention to Said anymore?  Is he still assigned in the academy?  If not, perhaps I should refrain from bringing his name and giving it life.  There is the lyric from "Streets of Laredo." Don't mention his name and his name will pass on

Related - I remember when Democrats often objected to trade treaties until they discovered they were excellent ways to sneak in policies they couldn't implement using normal lawmaking.

An excellent point. The problem with good legislation is that it attracts bad add-ons.
