Notice on the sidebar that "I don't know, but..." actually seems to understand this. Like the bridge hand in the newspaper, I can follow what he's saying as I read it, but am unable to recreate it moments after finishing.
Crud. I should have linked to some explanations of the things I was talking about. The problem boils down to: everything else seems to obey the speed limit, or else behaves consistently with it--why would this class of particles be different? The Standard Model describing elementary particles assumes that the neutrinos are like the others, and it works very well so far, though we know it is incomplete.

Even neutrinos are turbcharged these days. It's progress.
