The Street With Eight Names

The main shopping street in Stromness, second-largest town in Orkney, is called Victoria Street on GPS but has a strange history. It was not always continuous, but was a series of alleyways along the wharves, with houses, warehouses, and shops interrupting it. It is now about the width of a walkway at an outlet mall. 

 

It is a mile long, wonderfully charming for shopping, and if you expand that picture, you will get a bit more of Scots humor.

It is called the Street with Eight Names.  I could only find six on the day I was there: John, Victoria, Dundas, Alfred, South End, and Ness.
