Global Warming Observations

You will not often catch me linking to the NY Times, but this Tierney article linked over at Instapundit has some interesting features. The writer believes that Global Warming is anthropogenic and that we should act on that, but he doesn't think catastrophic scenarios are at all likely. He also recommends we encourage private solutions.

I think that's about right. I would add in my long-term fondness for the low-environmental impact solutions of ANWR and offshore drilling, plus nuclear power. Oil shale/tar sands are excellent long-term solutions, but still need some development, both economically and environmentally.

Um. Okay, I actually agree with the desirability of developing ANWR and oil-sans, as well as nuclear.

But how in God's green earth are you concluding that developing ANWR would help reduce anthropogenic global warming?

Not especially that. Just that it is low-impact environmentally.

It is an interesting column, but it's still not written by a scientist. It's wonderful that he believes that global warming is anthropogenic. Me? I'm not so sure even all 10 billion of our evil selves acting together are that powerful a force. As for scientists who believe otherwise, there are a fair number, and they seem to be getting more vocal about their disagreement.
