The article is interesting enough in itself, but I of course
gravitated to the first map, looking for patterns.
The Southwest, in contrast, shows concentrations in the sunniest areas,
but not in other parts of the same states, suggesting that those states do not
offer solar incentives. Where the sun is
solar incentive enough, no additional help is deemed necessary. Georgia, and especially Florida, are more
ambiguous. Also, there’s a blip on Virginia’s Eastern Shore and maybe in the
Dismal Swamp region that deserves explanation. Massachusetts, Vermont, Minnesota, New Jersey, and
North Carolina are clearly doing something to encourage solar, as they show
concentrations that end at their borders.
