Al Sharpton is reported to have said about the Tawana Brawley case. "I'm not going to pursue it legally. I'm going to pursue it politically."

And you know, sometimes a thing like this absolutely should be pursued politically rather than legally. It's just that there's still no excuse for using witch-trial rules. There should be a big political price paid for someone who smears irresponsibly. Voters--that's us--should impose that price ruthlessly. That's pursuing something politically, too.
