Sponge-Headed Scienceman sent along this PBS documentary about How The Beatles Rocked The Kremlin, crediting them with creating a great deal of the cultural pressure which ultimately brought the Iron Curtain to collapse.
Quite reminiscent of the idea behind the underground Czech rock group The Plastic People of the Universe, hated by the communist authorities. They were the foundation for Tom Stoppard's play "Rock and Roll."
I agree with the concept, but feel the documentary overstates the case. The Beatles were a metonym for an entire rebellious youth culture, not the force itself.
