I am not enjoying this, but I am going to do at least a week.
Not everything that calls itself love is love. In fact, such announcements are often an indication that the good thing in question is brittle or shallow. Those who call themselves brave...what would you think? Those who call themselves wise...or kind...or honest...don't you feel like pulling out a stopwatch and seeing how long it takes to disprove it?
Jordan Call on young children crying. It sounds very much like something my oldest would say,
Cremieux Recueil argues that Ozempic is not causing muscle loss, despite the current flurry of claims. He also believes that there is no autism epidemic, only a change in definitions.

Against Hobbies, over at Deep Left Analysis. This one has already gotten a lot of people stirred up. It's too long, and he gets sidetracked, but it is still kind of fun. He really lays into pet owners

Not a big fan of gardening, is he? We made sure the kids knew where food came from and what kind of work you needed to put in to get it, and tried to always have something they could eat straight out of the garden: peas, cherry tomatoes, grapes... These days flowers go into a "take a flower" bucket that the neighbor kids can enjoy, and, for my better half at least, working in the garden gives some accomplishment, fighting back the chaos for food and beauty and order.
The anti-hobbyist post was a rant, and nothing like coherent analysis.
Define what constitutes a hobby.
Having a dog or cat isn't usually a hobby, but a lifestyle. Teaching your dog tricks or taking funny photos of your dog would be a hobby.
" the new middle classes began to ape their old fashions in a cargo cult of dog breeding."
The author does not understand what "cargo cult" means.
" I don’t want hobbies. I want to build, create, explore, challenge, duel, fight, and win. "
All of these can be hobbies.
"When you exit the realm of hobbies, you enter the realm of service and sacrifice."
I'm retired, I don't give a shit about service or sacrifice. Yeah, that's fine if that's what you want to do, but it doesn't look so good to me.
The author sounds unfulfilled.
Either that or else he's just bored. One thing hobbies are good for is alleviating boredom. They give you something to do that would otherwise be wasted doing nothing.
For my part, I just started a new hobby: learning Japanese. And I must say it's quite the challenge.
