That's more of a finding in logic, isn't it? If there is no weapon, the odds of a weapon being used are zero. If there is, the odds are non-zero. Psychology quite aside, of course it's true that a weapon that exists is more likely to be used than one that doesn't.
Of course, almost everything is a weapon if you put your mind to it.

My brother was in technical theater, especially lighting, and used to say "everything can be a hammer."
