Right after Grim brings up exercise and depression, more in the context of PTSD, following on discussions of morbid disposition, The Studies Show comments in its mistakes-we-made episode, Mea Culpa, that they have some skepticism, not so much of the concept, but of the slippery definitions and actual degree of effect. So stay tuned. I hope it's not a paywalled episode, but if it is that might push me over to actually spring for a subscription.

For the non Conanish and those without horses to ride, or those without motivation to chop wood or lift weights, or those who do these things and still feel blue, is there some sunshine to be had from contemplating 2 seeming contradictory statements.
'For there was never yet philosopher that could endure the toothache patiently', and, ' the rain falleth on the just and the unjust'.
I think there may be an other way for couch potatoes through the mental Mines of Moria.
The Deus ex Machina of Gandalf (who at some level grates) being reborn after a spot of bother was sort of weak, compared with all the rest of a cracking good story. Good for filmography, and I suppose there has to be something like that to balance the other side of the confection.
In actual life, the monstrous problem needs whittling down and packing away, not dramatising, and then dissolved with the magic of a laugh. I prefer my version of the improbable.
