Some of the funding disparities are because squeaky wheels get the grease; i.e., those who make the noise get the funding. Re mental health- perhaps because some have the impression that all those wonder drugs have solved it. Granted, reality is different, but some have that impression. Hospital bed-days: these would be lower from 50 years ago due to deinstitutionalization, a.k.a. closing down mental hospitals so we can have the homeless. No, that wasn't that the intent of closing them down, but it was a consequence. Nonetheless, open beds are at a premium.
We need a follow up study on effectiveness of funding, of bang for the research buck.
