Why do the Muppets endure?

50 years later, why do the Muppets endure?  It's quite simple... they rock.

The late Harry Chapin wrote that.

As I have confessed before, when it comes to making music I have no socially redeeming value. But I did have an inexpensive 6 string acoustic guitar in college that I would plunk around on for fun and on a whim in my freshman year I purchased a Gibson hollowbody electric from a desparate-for-cash upper classman. I don't know what I was thinking - dreaming like Scooter I guess - and sold it 6 months later to someone who really could play it.

And the Muppets' humor holds up well. Remember http://assistantvillageidiot.blogspot.com/2011/01/persistence-of-comedy.html ?

Yes, they are good, at least from my old fogey point of view. Do younger generations still like the Muppets?

Avoiding topical references makes things more universal. Not stuck in time.
