I have two middle-aged friends - both social workers - involved in one of the local leagues. One is a referee as a side job, the other helps manage his wife's team and his 14 y/o daughter's team. So I keep thinking I have to go to one of the events from either of the NH leagues just for the fun of it.
I visited the websites and watched the videos this evening. To go to one of their "bouts," we would have to have Ben along. No other circumstance under which I can see myself going. Too much pathos, not enough irony.

I have a sister-in-law playing in a women's hockey league. There are women who do this for fun, for exercise, and to vent their aggression as need be. Roller derby--pushing, shoving, body-checking--does the same.
