Non-Gourmet

Trying to use up random ingredients in the refrigerator before they go bad seldom makes for great salads. But the standard green salad - lettuce, cukes, carrots - plus slivered almonds and bing cherries worked out great. We kept out the tomatoes, figuring they wouldn't work so great with the cherries.

Think 'soup'. Leftover soup.

Ah, one of my favorite challenges. It can be gourmet. The key is spice, and at least one fresh or exotic ingredient. Slurry casserole can be comforting in the winter, but stir fry can pep things up. Or curry (try the Patak's pre made spice mixes that KEEP a long time in the fridge.

However, we just had to throw out $300 or more worth of food as our fridge died over the weekend (two year old GE, Chines made piece of !@#$. Waste, waste, waste not (my New England conditioning is making me twitchy and guilty)

Bing cherries - great, Maraschino cherries - not so much.
