Don't do this.

This is strange--I don't think I've ever had anyone try to use this technique on me. It certainly wouldn't work; maybe that's too obvious for anyone to try. Any one of those questions would creep me out to the point of making me walk away instantly without regret.

Yes, obvious is easy.
What to do, though, with those who follow George Constanza’s advice to Jerry Seinfeld?
“It’s not a lie if you believe it.”

Here is where the Devil, powers principalities and Dominions make their wicked gains.

I’m with Tex; I can’t remember anyone ever saying these things to me. Maybe we have chosen our company wisely.

I heard them often in a clinical context, which may be why I thought it a public service.

That's the vibe I would get: a very disturbed person trying to sound normal in order to escape consequences for whatever had gotten him in hot water. I didn't meant to diss your public service! It is interesting information. I just wondered if I was unusual in how much the approach creeped me out. I think I have a short trigger for manipulative techniques, part of my aloofness. A better way to manipulate me is to withhold attention.

There is a strong female preference for using silence aggressively. You can see why it would be an advantage in violent societies.
