There is a fair overlap between this site and Grim's Hall already, but for those of you who don't visit there, he is currently overloaded as a first responder in the mountains of the west Carolinas. He can occasionally get internet and get a message out, and Starlink is reportedly solving that problem soon. He favors on-the-ground solutions, as do many of us here, and has suggestions how you might help if you've a mind to.

Per Grim's suggestion, I could imagine friends who are in landscaping and/or construction who have access to pickup-bed transfer-tanks pooling to loan them to someone who runs an appropriate truck to carry the max allowable by payload, law, and practicality-- the individual tanks need to be below 119 US GAL, but more than one may be carried up to 1000 GAL. (Kind of scares me that unplacarded trucks with non-professional drivers are allowed to carry ~6000lbs of sloshing hazmat!) Many could probably arrange life to be without their transfer tank for a few days. I'm seeing reddit and facebook comments detailing circuitous routes that are passable to many of the affected communities.
Also makes me re-evaluate my own storm preps. Storing gasoline is a PITA and a hazard, but that may well be one of the most needful things at the time of a storm. Maybe the best thing is having the empty correct containers on-hand to fill when the warning of an upcoming potentially disastrous storm comes, and then (post storm) putting it into the cars as they need filling so that one is left with empty vented dry containers again.
