I replaced a computer after 7 years, but the "new" one is now just short of 7 years and I have no intention of replacing it. As I have needed to replace the power supply (2 years to failure) and hard drive (5 years to failure) on my "new" computer, it could be said that I have already commenced its replacement.
Installing a new computer is easier these days by being able to transfer data via flash drives, which hold a lot more data than CDs or DVDs.
The difference between "old" and "new" computers is a lot less than it used to be. The computer I purchased nearly 7 years ago was a lot quieter than my old one. There won't be such a difference today with new ones.

I hope you enjoy it! It's a PITA to set a new one up though.
Over time you tend to accumulate a lot of utilities, some of which don't work under new versions of the OS. Annoying.
How long did you keep the old computer?
