This is what we know so far.

It looks like physics is easier.

Not ashamed to say I just ordered the free 4' x 3' poster of this metabolic map. My research is largely centered on developing analytical methods to measure these thousands of compounds (plus drugs and environmental chemicals) in small volumes of blood and how they change in relation to different diseases. We call this concept of measuring metabolites in an unbiased way metabolomics. We are often challenged by the constraints from defining individual "metabolic pathways". As you can see, they are interconnected, and the boundaries we set to define a pathway in many ways are arbitrary. Our interpretation of biology is more and more depending on a systems biology approach where we look across pathways and biological layers to integrate genomics, epigenomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics.

I was thinking of you with a chuckle when I put this up, Doug. (Note to readers. He's my nephew.)
