Whiplash

One new thing in the public discourse I have absolutely not gotten used to is liberals waxing nostalgic for the years 1945-1963.  Those wonderful years when unions were strong and regular folks could get good jobs and there were neighborhoods and social capital and the evil rich weren't gouging us, etc.  Krugman's The Conscience of A Liberal absolutely floored me, as I was still expecting liberals to be in Robert D Putnam mode (2001), wondering if sociological research that might gum up diversity goals should be suppressed.

But OWS seemed to have a fair bit of Good Old Days nostalgia, and those days were boomer childhood.

After a lifetime of trashing the 50's - sometimes for very good reasons - in favor of more recent eras, you would think they would have some dim awareness that they have been saying the exact opposite for decades.  Nah Oceania has always been at war with Eastasia.

And both have been losing.

It's sometimes very hard to keep straight who wants to progress and who wants to conserve.
