Mary Did You Know?

The accompanist played an arrangement of this as the prelude this morning. There is Christmas music written every year, but little of it enters the canon of Christian favorites. We weeded through all the ethnic carols for a century, ending up with a mostly English, French, and German menu with some others thrown in. Other than that, what have we added since "Some Children See Him?" and "The Little Drummer Boy?"

I think "Mary Did You Know?" is going to be the addition from this generation.

I could not agree with you more. That song is a classic. I would go so far as to say it is anointed. My favorite lines are: "this child that you delivered; will soon deliver you."

Little known fact: "Mary Did You Know" was written by Christian Comedian Mark Lowry. Yes that Mark Lowry.

I knew that.

I knew that as well. And I really think the Christmas cannon can do without it. I just really don't like it for some reason.

I also like "What A Strange Way To Save The World" by 4Him.

Also out of the Gaither musical dynasty, try The Glorious Impossible, another remarkable and moving Christmas song.

I don't like it either. The first time I heard it was in a really creepy rendition in an amusement park, of all places, right after a re-enactment of a Civil War battle fought in the area. Just too weird for me.
