Fair's Fair

I feel obliged to point out that the massive hypocrisy, energy waste, and enormous carbon footprint of the Live Earth concerts do not invalidate their claim. History is replete with people advocating for causes while not living up to their ideals. Most young environmentalists are hypocrites; so what? Most everythings are hypocrites. I sometimes find it remarkable that we rise out of selfishness long enough to do any good at all.

Yes the sanctimony is irritating, but it is irrelevant to the truth. The same is true for all the kicking of Al Gore about his personal exploitation of the environment and John Edward's exploitation of the poor. The hypocrisy might be a valid consideration as to whether we elect them but it does not in itself invalidate their causes, any more than randy preachers invalidate Christianity.

Your point is taken.

However, if the available evidence leads you to question the initial premise, or even to question parts of the premise (example, the climate is changing, and pollution and waste are both inherently bad, but does that then mean that climate change is the fault of man's pollution and waste?) challenging the hypocrisy of those who advocate such a questionable premise is legitimate. Tha hypocrisy may even be valid evidence of their untrustworthiness.

Rats smell. If you find a rat that has doused itself with the bad cologne of hypocrisy, not only do you know you have a rat, but also that it is trying to hide itself from you.

I can not agree.

If I know you are lying when I know what the truth is, the safest course is for me to assume you are lying when I do not know what the truth is.

The difference is that I'll listen to a randy preacher tell me about sexual purity, but I'll be damned if Kelly Clarkson is gonna make me carpool.

How about if she's driving?

Sometimes "truth" is obvious, other time less so...particularly when dealing with "science".

How little we know about what we thought was well understood is shocking.

I feel there is an astounding level of hubris among those who claim we understand weather and our planet's systems when we don't really even understand lumps of metal.
