Celtics Opener

I have high hopes for the Celtics this year, even though they have 5 guys in the rotation 21 or under. I am looking for this to be a breakout year for none of them, but a serious improvement for all.

At the moment, they are losing by 10 to a good but not great Hornets team. What you see in the Boston rotation at the moment is a bunch of almosts. Paul Pierce, almost good enough to carry a team himself; Wally Szerbiak, almost good enough to be a second scoring threat; Sebastian Telfair and Rajon Rondo, almost good enough to be NBA starting point guards. No one you can identify as The Weakness or The Problem, but not enough to move forward. It's not pretty, I fear, and there will be recriminations in about two months if it's not coming together.

I still think not enough has changed for it to be the real deal yet. We're still a team that's "almost" good. That counts for nothing.

I agree. Jefferson had 13 points and 6 rebounds in 20+ minutes. That's encouraging. He also fouled out. Not good. That's illustrative of the whole team. Very encouraging; deal not closed.

The ESPN guys are hoping that Don Nelson will be brought in. I don't know how much difference that would make.
