Storm

I have never done a stormwatch blog; it just seems too temporary and local.  Y'all have your own problems.  But this is the lightest snow I have ever dealt with. Freezing rain or sleet on snow, or slushy snow don't have the inches or low temperatures to brag about but are much worse. So far no problem.

We supposedly have four more inches to go, when once the prediction was twelve more. Still very light because of the low temperature. I had predicted 16 inches, then jumped it to 18 at the last minute. Some models were saying 24.  My first guess is looking good at this point - light snow projected all day.

Wind chill above zero anyway.

Final report: It won't go above freezing for two weeks - winds but no high winds. Little snow.

When they said "record snow" I wondered if they meant as deep as the diameter of a 45 single or if they meant an LP.
So far it could be either one. In thickness rather than diameter.

We got lucky here, but I'm pretty exhausted after a weekend of preparation for a disaster.

All the same, after Hurricane Helene, I am not sorry to have taken the warnings seriously and done due preparation. It's often overblown, but the one time it isn't you'll be very glad to have done what you could to get through it with your family safely.

We dodged a big bullet. The drizzle on Saturday night and a barely-there light freeze produced a little ice on porches and stairs Sunday morning at dawn, but the roads were dry and clear by 9 or 10am, remaining dry and clear today. The freeze dropped to a low of about 26 this morning, a level we're predicted to hit once more tomorrow morning. That's likely to be it for this winter.

Doing alright here. We got a little less snow than predicted, I think, a bit of sleet, and fortunately little to no ice unlike farther south. I was able to clear the drive yesterday though I've had to shovel piles from the street plowing a couple of times now. Clear and sunny which means we're going to drop to 0 or possibly below for a low tomorrow morning so the snow will be solid after today's minor melting, and we won't warm much for at least a week.
