The piccolo part comes in at about the three minute mark.

  1. You touch the mother lode with your recording of Stars and Stripes. As he mentions, the original was written/played by Guy Van Duser, who I followed live for quite a while. I believe he's now a professor at Berklee.

Here's the original Stars and Stripes, with Guy Van Duser playing.

The first thing I heard him a play was a copy of Chet Atkins' Caravan. My linked version only alludes to its roots. However, the longer story is that as a young guitarist, Van Duser followed Chet Atkins from vinyl records, and tried to copy the sound. What he didn't know was the Chet had a digital reverb machine, so when Chet played one note, the machine added another, like an echo. Not knowing about the machine, Van Duser created his own version of Caravan, by playing "both" notes.

For much of his career, he played with a clarinetist, Billy Novick, doing jazz standards and even some Scott Joplin ragtime. Here's one of those:

  2. In the great circle of life, here's Chet Atkins playing Starts and Stripes, as he learned it from Guy Van Duser.
