So my daughter-in-law in Alaska now has over a million followers on TikTok, mostly in the Philippines. She likes her Facebook account better, though, because it pays more. It occurred to me for the first time only a few weeks ago that when we talk about someone being an influencer on social media, we are talking about Jocie as a major example. It definitely seems strange.
So what is her angle to attract all those followers?
ReplyDeleteShe is a Filipina who describes life on the Alaskan frontier to those back "home." The episode where she demonstrated that the ocean really does freeze over, and they harvest giant crabs in the winter was a big hit. But mostly she is just immensely charming and the girls are adorable, and she films what they eat, going to school, whatever. John-Adrian hunting caribou and smoking salmon also seems to fascinate.
