Putting it in writing has a similar effect. Maybe they’re not the same, though. It could be that speaking involves trying to frame a thought for a particular other, a present and known audience, whereas writing involves trying to frame points more broadly. There may be exceptions, like say comments composed on a blog with a known audience.
