Just in case you were worried, there are levels beyond levels. I had a patient this week who has been drinking over 40 units a day, usually hitting 50. Those are Eastern European levels. The bio father of my two Romanians drank two liters of palinca a day. That would go anywhere from 80 to 130 proof, made out in the shed. Babushkas sell it to tourists in Fanta bottles for the equivalent of a couple of dollars each.
Is fetal alcohol syndrome common there?

ReplyDelete@ james - one would think so, but I don't know it to be so. Try this. Their DNA is turning out to be very similar to the rest of Europe's but their national IQ's are 2-5 points less. FAS and FAE would be good early nominees, especially as they don't have cousin marriage, which is the other major depressor of intelligence.
ReplyDelete@ Sam L - a very good choice. That is a point at which many people increase their alcohol consumption, and it is harder to back off when one does not have natural supports in the home. I have two friends I have asked to come and be confrontive after a few months if my wife predeceases me.
