When you can't see that well out of one eye, cutting vegetables should not be done in a hurry. Also, grilling in the dark is not advised either.
On the plus side, I learned that teriyaki that uses molasses instead of brown sugar doesn't char so much.
Hold the veggies with a tool.
ReplyDeleteI hope the injuries weren't serious.
ReplyDeleteDid you slice onions too?
No injuries. Just a sense of vulnerability that things could go very bad quickly.
ReplyDelete"grilling in the dark"
ReplyDeleteA country song in there somewhere...
I have two sets of knives. One on the cheap side, serated, sturdy, adequate for many things, but not chopping vegetables or slicing meat. For those chores, I have a set of expensive knives. Special permission and a proper cutting board is required to use them -- they are sharp enough for a minor "slip" to send one to the ER for stitches. They are also sharp enough that even with arthritis I can still cook like I want to.
Thanks for tip about teriyaki... I didn't know that.
Once I saw the molasses in the ingredients it just made sense. Less sugar, equal flavor.
ReplyDeleteAs for knives, I have always been clumsy, but have therefore learned to pay close attention. But lack of dept perception changes things.
Only on rare occasions have I injured myself badly with a knife, but the experiences made me fanatically conscious about knife-handling safety protocols. Ditto nail-guns. These are the things I learn since I've never had to drive in snow.
