Until I read PJ Media's worst Christmas songs, I never noticed that John Lennon's Happy Xmas (War Is Over) is to the tune of "Stewball." Well, PPM's tune, anyway. There are others.
That has to be one of the most unintentionally (probably, I hope) depressing Christmas songs. Even beats out Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas (with the proper Muddle through lyric).
I don't dislike all versions of Merry Christmas Baby but it's easy to go horribly wrong. Baby It's Cold Outside is the same way - Rod Stewart and Dolly Parton? .. ewww. At least Sirius Holly replaced that one this year.
Somebody needed to tell Taylor Swift a country version of Santa Baby would only work as a parody, with the lyrics changed.
BTW, did Lennon ever read Brave New World? Because "Imagine" expresses a vision Aldous Huxley had already weighed with BNW and found seriously wanting.
For the worst, may I nominate anything played before Advent?
I had a look at the site you linked to, and saw that somebody despised a song called "Snow" from White Christmas. I'd never heard of it before, or heard it. Until I went to the club tonight. I presume it fits well enough with the action in the movie, but as a standalone song it does rank among the worst.
