In all the press about powerful men who have committed sexual crimes, the Republicans do keep coming back with reminders about Bill Clinton. Congressman Anthony Weiner is already down the memory hole, seemingly.
There is another. He was nearly vice-president. Dirty tricks.
Unlike Weiner, Gary Heart, or Jesse Jackson, the Clintons won't go away.
ReplyDeleteJesse went away? Why/how have I not noticed?
ReplyDelete@ Boxty - good point. A wise friend once said "It's easier to forgive people once they stop sinning against you."
ReplyDelete@ Sam L. - comparatively. He did come back into the news last week when a black female journalist accused him of groping her when she was younger, but he has gone into the background somewhat.
Weiner seems to have had his comeuppance, even if it was in an apparent partisan honeypot scheme by a teen who wondered if he really was as laking in control as he seemed.
ReplyDeleteClinton is alleged to have committed things that are actually crimes, yet has managed to skate by sans-consequence.
Edwards was certainly top of the charts sleazy, but as far as I recall there the sexual behaviour was all consensual by all parties and not prosecutable - The felony charges were all related to misusing funds to take care of the mistress, and none resulted in conviction.
Agreed. I would add that Edwards did lots of public denying, including denying the child was his. Not prosecutable, as you say, but also not honorable.
ReplyDeleteEdwards actually tried to pin the child on a staffer of his.
ReplyDeleteA married staffer.
That's not a crime (and the staffer did actually agree to it), but jeez, for someone to even think of doing such a thing....
