My late step-mother, the daughter of the governor of california - James "Sonny Jim" Rolph Jr. - and the product of a expensive girls school and later (though only for one years or so) a student at UC...I believe there was only one then......anyway, she believed that Korea was an island. This was long before she was in "old age"....she was just illinformed and not at all curious.
I've seen that come up a couple of times since Chris Matthews claimed the Panama Canal was in Egypt a couple of weeks ago.
