Robert Reich posts something stupid
And Richard Fulmer, the Caveman Economist, corrects him.
...Reich implies that the "right" people (that is, people like Reich) can design a better society. But complex societies aren’t sketched out on blueprints; they evolve from the interactions of millions of people with local knowledge that’s unavailable even to Mr. Reich.
Reich resents no longer being in power.

Poverty is a policy choice for most people, in my experience--just not a societal one. I make wide exceptions for seriously disabled people, but I don't know any people of ordinary ability who manage to stay poor by any means than a stubborn insistence on insanely bad choices. At worst, without the terrible choices, they get into temporary jams when too much bad luck happens at once, then they steadily climb back out.
