Not Reading Books

It is a companion thought to CS Lewis's "On the Reading of Old Books."

As with all art, time is the great filter. There was a lot of lousy art made in the glorious past, but no one remembers it. For every War and Peace, there are hundreds or thousands of Irene Iddesleighs.

Quite right. I rarely read philosophy that isn’t at least a few hundred years old; or fiction that isn’t at least close to a hundred. Exceptions need to be well recommended.
