High School Dances

We were a big enough highschool (2,000) to have local cover bands for our dances, rather than relying on someone to play records. This was always big, and I put up the extended version rather than the abbreviated radio one for that reason. We didn't have light shows like this, though we had  a milk-and-water version by senior year.

You bring up an interesting point. What is the lower limit for high school size to afford a cover band for its dances? My high school of 700 students had cover bands for its dances. The best cover band had pretty competent musicians. One of the 4 played full time until several years ago, mostly in country bands(was his membership in the Folk Club a predictor of that?), when he took a day job to pay for things that his music gigs couldn't. Like pay off the mortgage. Another member of the high school cover band is still performing locally for not a lot of money, though for most of his years after high school he had day jobs, including helping manage a night club his family used to run. ( I heard Miles Davis and Bo Diddley perform there. Not bad.)
