Ghosts

I told my children growing up that when you get married, you do not marry only a person, but an entire family.  Even if they are dead, you are marrying their ghosts.

I wondered this week if the same is true for divorce.

I doubt that you can successfully separate from all the ghosts.

The question is, can a marriage be totally ended. In my limited experience, not if there are children. Also, sometimes people keep their relatives by marriage, or at least some of them; e.g., ones children's aunts, uncles and grandparents. A lot depends on how nasty and bitter the divorce is.

If you marry someone who is divorced, their family includes the family of the one they divorced. It can be sticky... like cobwebs.
