"Peace"

I just had a comment show up on a 9-year old post.  I can guess what google search led the young man to it.  I won't identify it - no need to embarrass the boy. He was critical, not of the content of my post but of the personal character I must have to write such a thing.

He signed off "Peace," of course. They always do.

I'd like to see this fleshed out somewhat.

Nah, it's a general rule. When I started in this gig, I thought that signing off with "Peace" meant that they were sort of old-fashioned hippies or hippy wannabees who were clumsily trying to make their criticism sound a little less aggressive, or perhaps reminding themselves as well as me to be polite. As I got into online discussions with them, however, I found that these were actually the meanest people in the joint, but in the usual Dunning-Kruger way, had no insight into that. There was no denting them. I recall two in particular where I started over again, tried to give as much credit and ground to their ideas as they could and acknowledged as much fault in the matter as I could, but they were unmoved. Still insulting, self-righteous. My subsequent experience has been the same. "Peace out" is the same. Other variations including the word "peace," I don't think so.

There could be exceptions. It may also be along a continuum, so that not all users at all times are just saying "F-you," but just veering toward that. I haven't speculated much as to why this occurs, other than noting the irony.

Ah. I see. Naming either a name or the posting would give them publicity, which they deserveth not.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. I had reason to search out the Facebook timeline of someone who had posted a rude, insulting, mean meme that was reposted by a friend of mine. I wanted to talk to him, to what end now, I'm not sure. He had posted insulting meme after insulting meme on his timeline, including one of some unfortunate soul who lacked a forehead (and thinking on this I wonder if it was a photograph of a flathead Indian from back when they flattened their children's skulls as a mark of beauty) and had a protruding jaw with large directionally-challenged teeth.) I am always repulsed by mockery of someone's appearance (even as I hypocritically think of Karen in the Daredevil TV series as looking like a skinny Olive Oyl). The statement under the photo was: Republicans.
I looked for information on the guy to see if there was any thread of commonality with him by which we could communicate, and I saw his occupation was: Peace. Uh-huh. I gave up on the idea.
