Gandalf Quote

“Other evils there are that may come; for Sauron is himself but a servant or emissary. Yet it is not our part to master all the tides of the world, but to do what is in us for the succour of those years wherein we are set, uprooting the evil in the fields that we know, so that those who live after may have clean earth to till. What weather they shall have is not ours to rule.

I recently used the same quote juxatposed with one from Churchill in a post. When I first read Lord of the Rings as a teenager that quote made no impression on me but rereading it when I was 50 it jumped out to me and I've remembered it ever since. http://havechanged.blogspot.com/2015/09/churchill-tolkien.html

Always enjoy your posts. They make one think.

j_l, I have this feeling sneaking up on me that your words are not reliable, and that I should mark your comment "Not Like".

I deleted the post Sam references.

So now he's the one out there stranded, looking like he hasn't understood the point. One of the perks of being a blogger.

You're welcome.
