Capgras Delusion

If you made it a movie, people would put it in the sci-fi, magical realism, or conspiracy categories. I have a patient with Capgras Delusion who has an identical twin. Yes, you will have to look it up. It's fairly obscure. I see about one a year, maybe less.

Note: It probably does have interesting movie possibilities.

  1. That's just what I was thinking: Leonard Nimoy warmly reassuring his patients that their conviction that their loved ones had been taken over by pods was a symptom of the alienation of modern life.

It seems to have more to do with a derangement of the parts of the brain that recognize faces, and it must be a truly horrifying experience.

  2. I have that; like Gerard Van Der Leun, there's some old guy looking out of my mirror at me.

  3. Sounds like my father in his last years.

I thought I had figured out the trigger--now I'm not so sure.

  5. I wish my mother had known about this--might have eased her mind a bit. No way to know.

  6. I'm so sorry to hear that. It's hard to imagine anything more confusing or painful.
