Language

I have not deleted comments for ideas - I have let some pretty disturbing things stay put - and I haven't bothered about bad language much.  One commenter using two different names has gone out-of-bounds too many times, and will be deleted. No value added.

  1. I was sorry to see you'd picked up what I'd call a troll, and I wondered if the second appearance wasn't the same fellow. Definitely not adding anything.

Bookworm Room has picked up what I'd call the opposite of a troll: someone way outside the echo chamber who can get excited, but no more so than the usual denizens. It does us good to hear other opinions. It's a good check on the health of our ideas, to see whether we can respond politely and persuasively to him.

  2. Some people just need killin'. Unfortunate, but sometimes necessary.

  3. That a commenter used two different names suggests something. Maybe he's afraid to comment without a fake majority, or maybe he expects to be banned and wants to spread the blame around to postpone the inevitable.

I suppose I've used more than one, in a way... Back in the day weird "nym"s were popular on some of the sites I visited, so I decided to be countercultural and use my name, or at least part of it (to cut down on spam). After a while more people started using first names, and I had to distinguish my James from the others, so I started using James the Lesser. Even with that modification I ran into a duplicate...

  4. Your blog, your rules.

    Blog on.

(At the risk of espousing the obvious--I read blogs at my pleasure which seldom includes random trolls. The trolls actually hurt themselves--I stop reading the comments as a first step of wondering if the blog is worth my time.)

  5. I vaguely recall having run into James The Lesser! No associations positive or negative that I can remember.

I dislike censoring. As an irritating person myself, I know that irritating people sometimes have important things to say. But the string just ran out on this.

  6. I am reminded of the Python sketch on arguments. Arguing is one thing, and simple negation is not a part of it. If a person is not contributing something, and is deliberately antagonistic or offensive, consign him to your spam filter

Hussein's not going to pause a moment and reflect. He's going to get revenge.
