Climate Science is new.
It has an enormous number of variables.
It attracts the second tier of scientific minds*, not the first.
Why then do we give its claims more credence than we do other sciences?
First answer: photographs.
*All sciences except math tend to have physics envy.

That plot has some curious features. Generic "Physics" or "Math" is higher than any particular branch of it. And I guess nursing has deteriorated some since the days of my mother's training (RN, teacher, extremely articulate, translated/trans-cultured MasterLife material into French in Africa, wrote a popular anti-AIDS pamphlet, assembled a team and produced several TV shows--her resume is better than mine)
I didn't see law on there. Apparently I was meant to be a physicist, though I can't say I ever gave it any serious consideration! Not sure why. It does run in the family.
Law and medicine are both not on there, likely because they take different tests for graduate school.
Good point. Back then, not having any idea what I should do, I took every test there was: SAT, LSAT, GRE, achievement tests, you name it. (Well, one exception: I never took the MCAT.) No matter what test I took, I always scored almost exactly the same thing. Whatever mysterious quality they were testing for, they consistently zeroed in on it.
