Thinking Of You

I have many things to write about but can't seem to get to them.  Perhaps there are too many and that is the problem.  Also, we are involved in discussions about going as a family to Grand Canyon for Thanksgiving.  Chris will be coming from Norway, JA from Nome, etc.  Very exciting.

Speaking of JA, he is discouraged by his coworkers simply not showing up for work.  Apparently, this lack of work ethic is not uncommon in Nome.  He has said quite clearly that he could offer a job to someone who would simply show up five days a week.  So if you have some job-seeking person willing to join the adventure of living in Nome - there are downsides and inconveniences, but it is one of those great-in-the-biography things - point them toward Nome.  Contact me, if you want.

  1. Long time Arizonan here. The Grand Canyon is "awesome". For otherworldly beauty venture a bit south through Oak Creek Canyon into Sedona. Don't miss The Chapel of the Holy Cross.

  2. Make sure you go on a helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon and check the # of minutes in the air. I was in Phoenix and took a bus tour to Sedona then used Maverick helicopters for a fantastic 50 minute ride. Only 8 passengers so we all got a good view and my honking Nikon and big lenses somehow garnered me a seat in front--way cool. Those trAding posts are ripoffs full of overpriced stuff. The Indians extract every dollar possible from gullible tourists (w lots of made in China crap). There's a really good Indian museum in Phoenix. I don't use the PC term because I have Indian blood way back and I don't change what I call my relatives to suit PC trends. The Phoenix zoo is great and also the botanical gardens there. And a cool zoo just outside Phoenix as well. Great hiking around foothills near Phoemix. Fantastic churches to visit on Sunday, packed, and rocking w praise songs (skip the mainline denominations and visit the new and thriving nondenominational evangelical ones). I gather the river is low for SERIOUS rafting, but still fine for families.

I'm hoping to take the Boy Kid thee to visit my sister when the temperature eases up on Phoenix (October or November)

    Excuse fat fingered iPhone typos...

  3. There's so much to do and see in the areas surrounding the Grand Canyon, you'd need a year long vacation to take it all in. You'd need the seasons too.

Is this to be a hiking trip? Mid to late November weather could be perfect for that.

  5. Retriever - Actually "Indian" is PC to most Indians. It's everyone else that doesn't think it sounds "right." They got to name their National Museum of the American Indian situated which in a prominent place on the Mall in DC. And they did.

Nome: A phrase for and by women (single) wrt men--The odds are good, but the goods are odd.

Still, an acquaintance of mine said the same about workers here in Oregon--they'll show up if they're not hunting or fishing or are short of the money to do those.
