How I loved that show!! And the short-lived science-fictiony one that followed. Such a genius that man was(whose name has suddenly slipped my mind) Why did he have to believe Christian Science and let pneumonia kill him? When we first watched Dark Crystal, at the end, my husband and I turned to each other and said in unison, What was that? A few years later we learned about the New Age movement and suddenly we understood the movie. I loved its ecology.
As a child of the 70s I grew up on the Muppets and loved it. I don't think I really understood it all at the time. In the last few years my husband bought me the entire Time-Life series on DVD and I have enjoyed it greatly. Recently I was commenting to my father that I was surprised that in some of the episodes (Kenny Rogers to be precise) the Muppet was smoking and had what was obviously a bottle of whiskey with him on the train in "The Gambler" sketch. He reminded me that it was The Muppet Show and not Sesame Street that I was watching. I remember the show being on at 6:30 (I grew up in CST) prime family viewing time and although it may not have been aimed at children it sure was on at an opportune time. If that were to happen today, parents would be up in arms, yet somehow I turned out to be a well balanced kid who never smoked and has never been drunk. I am sure some day when my children are older I will share the magic of the Muppets with them too.

If you're referring to the creator of the Muppets, that was Jim Henson. His buddy Frank Oz would later become Yoda of Star Wars.
