I get links from Science Alert, an Australian site, from time to time. I've decided I'm not that fond of it. It is too much like the old Discover or Omni magazines, promising more in its headlines than it delivers. What do others use for a general science news site?
I'm not sure what's best. I use QuantaMagazine, SciTechDaily, RealClearScience, and the regular news cross-checked with the sources cited (if any). It's not altogether satisfactory, and certainly not compact. The CERN Courier is a bit specialized and not updated daily.
ReplyDeleteThe need to catch eyeballs seems to shape all the general sites (that I know about) somewhat. That's on top of the "look at me" that researchers use to promote preliminary results -- the more exciting the possibilities the more likely you are to get the funding to complete the study.
